Milagros

Margaritas anyone? :) My husband and i love to hang out and eat at Milagros. It's got a very nice atmosphere and killer margaritas. The outside patio is great especially on warm summer nights. The chips and salsa just keeps coming and the songs put you in a happy mood.

Milagros literally means "miracles" in spanish. I enjoy munching on their chips and salsa while waiting for my sizzling fajitas to be served. The portions are generous enough that you will have difficulty getting to the excellent desserts such as the bread pudding or flan. But that my dears, is not the best part. Once you take a sip on their sangria and margaritas you're hooked! Their cocktails and drinks are absolutely out of this world. My husband gets seconds (and thirdsss?) of strawberry mojitos, and of course, my one and only strawberry daiquiri.

So if you love drinks, or just like to have a good time with friends or family, then dine at Milagros. Another one of Bay Area's hot spots!

Aldo's Pizza

The Best Pizza in Town!

Aldo's Pizza began as a dream for founder Aldo Scaliucci. It is located at Norfolk St. in San Mateo since 1958. Aldo's Pizza used to be under the name Peewee's Pizza. When the restaurant became more popular, word began to spread about the great pizza served by Aldo. He then changed the restaurant's name to his own.

Aldo's Pizza is known for it's specialty, the thin crust pizza. To top it off, it is made using only the freshest, highest-quality ingredients. When Aldo retired, he passed along his recipe to Manuel and Ana, who bought the restaurant, so customers could continue to enjoy terrific italian pizza in the neighborhood.

All pizzas come with sauce and Mozzarella, Provolone and Cheddar cheese. Their pizzas come in different sizes too. You can choose from the Petite (6") serves 1, Small (10") serves 1-2, Medium (12") serves 2-3, Large (14") serves 3-4, X-Large (16") serves 5-6, and Giant (18") serves 6+.

What I usually order is their Aldo's special, X-Large 16". The toppings are Pepperoni, Salami, Olives and Mushrooms. But of course, there are other great pizzas to choose from. They also serve pastas, burgers, salads and sandwiches. Aldo's pizza is truly a pizza you will never forget!

Gerry's Grill Restaurant and Bar

Gerry's Grill is a filipino restaurant located at the Union Landing Complex in Fremont. It's a good place to hang out with friends, watch the boxing game like "Manny Pacquiao" or just chill at the bar.

Gerry's grill offers a combination of quality grills, seafood and asian cuisines plus the perfect ambience that goes with them. Some of the top food choices that I recommend are the Sugba Kinilaw, Grilled Squid, Sizzling Pork Sisig, Crispy pata and lots lots more!

Sugba kinilaw is raw tuna with vinegar and spices topped with grilled pork belly. Crispy Pata, another favorite dish of mine, is pork knuckles deep fried till crisp. Sizzling Sisig is Gerry's Grill's topseller! Crackling pork meat sauteed with onions and spices. Served on a skillet.

Soups... Sinigang is one of my favorites. It has that little sour flavour that makes you crave for more. There are different types of sinigang soups. They have the Salmon, Pork, Seafood, Shrimp, Milkfish (Bangus), and beef ribs. I prefer the pork though, IMHO.

Good desserts that's a must-try are Halo-halo, Leche Flan and Buko Pandan. Halo-halo is very popular in the Philippines. It is one of our best delicacies. For those of you who don't know what halo-halo is, it's a mixed sweetened tropical fruit served topped with ice cream and caramel custard. Mmm...

One of Bay Area's hot spots.. perfect to celebrate your birthdays! ENJOY!

Vino Santo Bistro

Vino Santo Bistro is a small italian restaurant located in downtown Redwood City owned by Mr. Ocegueda. This is by far my most favorite italian place in the bay area. It reminds me of the italian restaurant back home called "RED TOMATO" where my bestfriend and I go to, to chat and eat our favorite Spaghetti Arabiatta.

I have dined here at Vino Santo Bistro 4 times and had never been disappointed. I highly recommend the tortellini carbonara and the Linguini Con Gamberi. The tortellini carbonara just melts in your mouth. It has that soft, cheesy flavour every time and I just let it melt in there and enjoy that texture. This is probably the only food that I eat in slow motion haha.

The bruschetta, bread with diced tomatoes, basil and olive oil always pairs well with any pasta dishes. So make sure not to skip that out. The service is impeccable, the price is average. If you're dining for 2, I would say $50-$60. If you would like to take someone special out to dinner, then Vino Santo Bistro is the perfect place to go. The lights are dim which makes the place romantic, beautiful atmosphere and you can take a stroll outside, where it is safe, clean and love is in the air.

Elephant Bar

Sept 5, 2006, on a cold summer night in San Francisco International Airport, my bestfriend and I got all our stuff from the baggage area and hurried on to the exit. It was our first time to visit America so you can just imagine how excited we were. Not to mention, my fiance and I had been apart for a year and a half of long distance relationship so this was definitely one of those special moments in my life. We're finally together again. We got out around 9:30 p.m and most restaurants close around that time. My bestfriend and I parted ways, so it was time for my fiance to take me out to dinner. Yep, little choices around this time of the evening!

I remember my famous culture-shock statement was "Ooohh.. how nice your parking lot, it has A.C!"

toink!

Well, I came from a country where there's only 2 seasons, wet and dry! and super hottt.. okay, tropical weather. That sounds better :)

Anyway, back to dinner. So what's open? Not so far, only 5 minutes away, and has beautiful views of planes landing and calming water of the bay.. Elephant Bar! I don't even know what kind of food they serve, I'm sure it's not mediterranean either. All I know is they have scrumptious food.. the Shrimp Jambalaya which is my hubby's favorite is rich and saucy. Served with rice of course and some chicken on it. They also have Tri-tip Steak with Grilled Shrimp served with side vegetables and mashed potatoes.. Mmmm.. I always liked mine cooked medium rare. A lil hint of pink doesn't hurt! ;) Let's see.. the Lamb Shanks we're also good. They were soft to the bone baby! There are other main courses you will enjoy too.. If you like to nibble, then the Kona BBQ Pork Ribs is the way to go.

For the appetizer, now this you will not find on the menu, but definitely give it a try. Their Calamari, served with some shredded salad and a dip, is just addicting. I love the Shrimp Adventure Platter too.. it's like shrimpt festival hehe. Below you will find the famous Shrimp and Chicken Jambalaya, Shrimp Adventure Platter and my favorite Tri-Tip Steak with Grilled Shrimps:

Elephant Bar is definitely a great place to dine with everyone. From friends, family or with your date... even when you're alone. Just hang out at the bar, chill and keep those drinks coming up. Strawberry Daiquiri is what I always get, sweet and topped with real strawberry and whipped cream. My hubby prefers the strawberry mojito. What do you like? They might have it there too!

Last but not least... the dessert! No doubt my #1 choice is the Elephant Bar Ice Cream Mud Pie. It is very huge, it's probably good for 3 to 4 persons. The other bestseller is the Fudge Fudge Walnut Brownie. Lots of whipped cream, ice cream and chocolate syrup. Definitely a chocolate lover's dream.

To me, Elephant Bar is one of the Bay Area's hot spots. Perfect ambience, hot from the pot meals, good place to watch sports, I mean, what more can you ask for?:D

Pasta Pomodoro

"Wherever you go, home is something you can always take with you. I've tried to create a little bit of Milan here in Pomodoro. Great style, real tradition and a passion for food are everything that home means to me." - Adriano Paganini, Founder

When I dined at Pasta Pomodoro, I wasn't very much impressed at first. I ordered the Spaghetti Polpette. It is spaghetti with veal, beef and italian sausage meatballs in a spicy tomato sauce. I thought it tasted okay.. nothing fancy. Then one time, My boss and I decided to go to Bay Street for lunch. I was craving for something italian that day (well, almost everyday since I LOVVVEE italian food) I decided to give it another shot.

Lo and behold, I tasted the most delicious, most scrumptious panna cotta I've ever had! Ooops.. let's start from the appetizer hehe ;) They have the best Caesar Salad (well after Broadway Grill of course) and I always request a side dressing with it. Gamberi, shrimp roasted in a cast iron tegame with tomato, garlic and chilli, is a very good starter too. If you want, you can order side noodles such as spaghetti (I think they are for free too, pennysaver woohoo!) and mix the gamberi sauce with it, and voila! your very own spicy shrimp pasta. Thanks to the waiter who gave us this tip.

Okay, for the main course, here is what i love. Ravioli di Magro with gorgonzola sauce.. very cheesy and tasty. Fruiti de Mare which my boss raves so much, it is spaghetti with mussels, clams, shrimp, calamari and garlic in a light tomato sauce. Parmigiana, well this never fails. It's actually chicken parmigiana with tomatoes, basil, asiago and penne with spinach.. Mmmm. Oh, and of course, my staple order, Penne Puttanesca. But I always request it be changed to spaghetti noodles, I don't know why, to each his own. :)

Now on to dessert.. PANNA COTTA! I eat at pasta pomodoro 2-3 times a week for this heavenly treat. My attendance would probably drop if they stop serving this anymore haha. Seriously, don't you even dare Mr. Paganini.

Oh, I almost forgot, try the Bistecca too.. you wont be sorry. For Menu, click this link

Live, Love and EAT!!

Hi and welcome to my blog "Bay Area Hot Spots -- HOT from the Pot" Let me introduce myself. My name is Reina Ebrada and I've been here to America, specifically Redwood City California, for only a year. What can I say? San Francisco Bay Area is truly a wonderful place... exceptional! The place is clean, the air is fresh oh.. I could not ask for anything more. But luckily, there is more! The city is exactly what you can imagine, sparkling city lights with amazing views. The crooked road, known as Lombard street is a fascinating tourist attraction. Fisherman's wharf.. that you just have to see for yourself! And what can I say about the Golden Gate that hasn't been said before? :D

What about fooddd?? yes yes! Now we're talking. Got a hot date? ready to splurge? or maybe you just spent all your paycheck to that LV you've been eyeing on... *ehem* broke?? No problem! For a petite woman as myself, I love to eat.. from a dollar meal to a five-star restaurant (which sometimes isn't worth a single penny anyway, but i'll explain more to that later *wink*)

I am gonna show you the hot spots in town that fits perfectly with your "cravings" and of course your budget whatever the occasion may be!
